Electric Vehicle Charging Points to be Installed Across Oadby and Wigston

As part of its commitment to cut carbon emissions, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council is adding electric vehicle charging points to car parks, including East Street in Oadby.

With the sale of new petrol & diesel cars ending in 9 years time, a network of charging points is needed to support electric cars.

Most of the cost of the project has come from ring-fenced government grants & the private sector.

Local Lockdown Eased from 1st August

Note: this article has been further updated to reflect the further changed date of ending lockdown of 1st August, announced on Friday evening. These last-minute changes were made by the government, not Oadby and Wigston Borough Council or the Liberal Democrats.

The Covid-19 lockdown restrictions for the Borough of Oadby and Wigston are to be eased on Saturday 1st August.

According to a statement from the Department of Health and Social Care, from Saturday, residents and businesses in the Borough should the follow national social distancing guidelines, other than for clinically extremely vulnerable people who should continue shielding.

Different rules will apply to the city of Leicester, although they too represent an easing of lockdown there.

Unfortunately. the announcement was communicated in a confusing and incomplete way yesterday with the MP and the Health Secretary releasing bits and pieces of information on social media throughout the evening.

Local Liberal Democrats are concerned that this continued poor communication from the government on such an important issue can lead to residents and businesses being unsure about the current guidance. We hope that the government and MP will learn lessons from yesterday and that future communications will be clearer.
